Leadership LSU

Spring 2023 Cohort

LSU has recognized 24 students as the Class of 2023 for Leadership LSU, an annual program coordinated by LSU Campus Life. The cohort was honored at a closing brunch on Saturday, May 29 at the Club at Union Square on the LSU campus.

In its 34th year, this LSU tradition provides juniors, seniors, and graduate students the opportunity to develop and apply their leadership at elevated levels while in their final semesters at LSU. Participants chosen for the Leadership LSU Cohort exhibit the capacity to learn and impact others positively through their leadership experiences.

The cohort met weekly throughout the semester to learn about various leadership styles. New to the program this year, the cohort was split into four teams, each tasked with creating a leadership initiative for incoming first-year students. At the last meeting of the program, each team presented their project to various campus partners in hopes that their pitch would be selected to become a program for Fall 2023.

Caleb Wells, Campus Life’s Assistant Director of Leadership and Service, said “Through interactive sessions centered around conflict management, emotional intelligence, and adaptive leadership this year’s cohort has enhanced both personal and interpersonal skills to further develop their leadership identity.  As a culminating project, Leadership LSU students worked to design programming to increase leadership development for incoming students based on their experience at LSU. I look forward to seeing what this cohort of students accomplishes in the future and how we may implement their program proposals.”

The curriculum of Leadership LSU is based on adaptive leadership through group discussion and extracurricular lectures with LSU and community leaders. By the end of the program, students have learned how to identify adaptive leadership challenges, address social issues with the community, recognize the opportunities that come from an adaptive leadership experience and support the Leadership LSU peer network.
