LSU’s Integrative Community Studies (ICS) Program will rely on the inclusive spirit of the LSU and Baton Rouge communities to best serve its candidates. A critical component of the two-year educational certificate program for adults with developmental disabilities is the ongoing mentorship of existing students and faculty. Residents will be immersed into Tiger life by walking the Quad, studying in the library, relaxing in a residential setting, and attending many university activities and functions. All mentors are expected to model appropriate academic and social behaviors while interacting with ICS residents.

There are two types of mentors:

•  Independent Living Assistants will be housed in the same apartment as the candidates and are primarily responsible for morning and evening supports. ICS residents live together in a four-bedroom apartment alongside an independent living assistant.
• Academic/Social Mentors provide academic and social supports to residents as they progress through the program.

Qualifications

• full-time student at LSU
• in good standing with LSU
• desire to work with individuals with intellectual disabilities
• willing to submit to background check and attend Mentor Training prior to employment
