About Social Work

The Bachelor of Social Work program will prepare you to engage in a practice with individuals, families, groups, organizations, and communities. Graduates are qualified for entry-level positions in government, nonprofit, and for-profit social service agencies in fields such as schools, corrections, child welfare, hospitals, and the military to name a few. The LSU BSW program is currently in candidacy with the Council on Social Work Education. Once the program is fully accredited, students with a BSW may be eligible to enter a one-year Advanced Standing MSW program.

Program Requirements

Once you're an LSU student, you'll need to meet the requirements below to continue pursuing this major.

  • 24 hours of college credit
  • 2.5 GPA (LSU and overall)
  • Grade of “C” or better in the following:
    • English 1001
    • Math 1021 or higher
    • SW 2000
