Immunization Requirements

In order to protect the safety of the campus community and comply with Louisiana state law, students are required to submit proof of immunizations or sign an exemption form at the time of resignation or entry.

For In-State Students

The LSU Student Health Center will automatically receive immunization information for in-state student through LINKS. If you have received all the required immunizations, you only need to complete the Tuberculosis (TB) Questionnaire, which you can do electronically on the Patient Portal.

We became an authorized user of the Louisiana Immunization Network for Kids Statewide (LINKS) and successfully established a bidirectional interface with the web application.

We are now able to automatically exchange immunization information entered into LINKS with providers across Louisiana. This exchange supports campus and state-wide public health efforts and surveillance. If you have concerns about access to protected health information and the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA) and LINKS, please visit, Louisiana Immunization Network Web Application.

For Out-of-State Students

Out-of-state students can submit immunization forms on our Patient Portal.

Louisiana law (R.S. 17:170 - Schools of Higher Learning) requires proof of dates of immunization against measles, mumps, rubella, and tetanus-diphtheria for all first-time LSU students born on or after January 1, 1957, and for reentering students (born on or after January 1, 1957) who have been out of school for one semester or longer. The requirements were established for the purpose of meeting the established recommendations for control of vaccine-preventable diseases, as recommended by the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices to the United States Public Health Service (ACIP), and the American College Health Association (ACHA). Louisiana law subsequently mandated meningococcal meningitis vaccination for persons admitted to a postsecondary education institution starting in the Fall 2006 semester and thereafter. This was satisfied by giving the meningococcal ACWY vaccine. Since 2006 a meningococcal B vaccine has been developed, which covers a strain not covered by the ACWY vaccine. Though not currently mandated, the meningococcal B vaccine is strongly encouraged.

Allergy Shots

Students who need allergy injection administration must already have undergone allergy testing and have serum prepared; there is no allergist on staff at the Student Health Center.

Allergy serum, immunotherapy instructions, and records can be hand-delivered by the student to the Injection Clinic, or an allergist can ship the items directly to the Student Health Center to the address below. Serum will be stored in the Injection Clinic refrigerator.

Students will need to schedule an appointment with a medical provider for “allergy shot approval” before shots may be given at the Health Center.
