GameDay Recycling Challenge

The GameDay Recycling Challenge is a nationwide competition, among colleges and universities to reduce and recycle waste generated at home football games. To participate in the competition, schools choose one home football game to track and report their waste diversion data. This year, we are partnering with the Osprey Initiative and student organizations across campus to collect the most amount of recyclables for the LSU game against the University of Florida on November 11, 2023.

We would like to thank those who have sponsored this event such as Coca-Cola United, Cornerstone Chemical Company, and Keep Louisiana Beautiful. All glass collected will be given to Glass Half Full to be turned into sand for coastal restoration projects.

The LSU student organization or team that collects the most amount of recycled materials based on total count, will receive a stipend for their group or philanthropy. First place will receive $275, second place will receive $150, and third place will receive $75.*

Volunteer shifts are available on:

  • Friday afternoon, Nov.10,  to help with set up
  • All day Saturday, Nov.11 to assist with education and outreach
  • Sunday morning, Nov. 12, to assist with collecting recyclables around the grounds and in the stadium.

*All recyclables will need to be turned in, to be sorted and weighed on Sunday, Nov. 12 from 8:00-11:00 a.m.

We need as many student organizations as possible to regain the title as National Recycling Champs!  LSU has previously won the 2015, 2016 and 2019 competition. If you or your student organization is looking to volunteer, you can do so by filling out the sign-up form.
