Gideon D. Markman is the H. Norman Saurage Jr./Community Coffee Endowed Chair Professor
of Entrepreneurship in the Stephenson Department of Entrepreneurship & Information
Systems at Louisiana State University. An internationally recognized entrepreneurship
scholar, he studies how entrepreneurs and organizations navigate uncertainty as they
innovate, build new ventures, and shape strategic change. His recent work examines
meaning-driven entrepreneurship, venture creation and exit, organizational legacy,
and innovation.
Markman's scholarship begins with important real-world entrepreneurial and organizational
challenges. From these challenges, he develops rigorous theory that helps scholars,
entrepreneurs, and executives understand how new ideas are evaluated, how ventures
and innovations evolve, and how organizations create enduring value. His research
has appeared in many of the field's leading journals.
At LSU, Markman teaches corporate entrepreneurship and business model innovation.
Through teaching, executive education, and collaborations with industry, he has worked
with organizations including Amazon, Medtronic, Make-A-Wish, and Kaiser Permanente.
He is committed to developing the next generation of entrepreneurial leaders and scholars
through teaching, research, mentorship, and service.
Before joining LSU, Markman served on the faculties of Colorado State University,
the University of Georgia's Terry College of Business, and Rensselaer Polytechnic
Institute. He previously served as Editor-in-Chief of Academy of Management Perspectives and has held visiting appointments at Ghent University (Belgium), Audencia Business
School (France), and Reichman University (Israel).
