Management is the process of completing activities efficiently and effectively with and through other people. Planning, organizing, staffing, directing, reporting, and budgeting are critical aspects of an organization’s management. The Rucks Department of Management curriculum explores many facets of organizational behavior, human resource management, and global management practices.
If you enjoy working with people, are a good listener, decisive, and calm while solving issues, a degree in management may be right for you. This program will teach you to think critically about an organization’s behaviors and make smart business decisions. The skillset can be applied to various career paths and organizations that need well-trained and competent managers to keep them evolving.
What You'll Learn
The Bachelor of Science in Management is a 120-hour program that teaches students to evaluate an organization’s competitive environment, resources, and capabilities, identify critical managerial and implementation issues, and effectively tackle various organizational situations. Areas of study covered in the program include:

Customized Coursework That Fits Your Career Goals
Management majors select from three available concentrations to focus their studies — human resource management, international management, or strategic leadership — letting students align their knowledge and skills with their interests and goals.
Human Resource Management Concentration
The human resource management concentration requires students to take nine hours of advanced HR-focused classes, including Employee Selection & Placement, Compensation Administration and Legal Issues in HRM, plus six hours of electives. Our HR Concentration requirements are aligned with the Society for Human Resource Management’s Curriculum Guidelines — the largest professional organization for HR generalists.
- Required Courses (9 hrs.) - Select three from: MGT 4322, 4323, 4500, and 4523
- Approved Electives (6 hrs.) - A list of approved electives is available from the Rucks Department of Management.
SHRM recognized that our curriculum prepares HRM students to meet the needs of today’s
businesses. Students enrolled in our aligned program are eligible to apply for the
SHRM-CP exam, providing them with a career advantage. They also receive student pricing
advantages when sitting for the exam and can enjoy favorable exam eligibility requirements.
International Management Concentration
The international management concentration allows students to build the knowledge and skills needed to understand the complexity of global management and the cultural context of business.
- Required Courses (9 hrs.) - Select three from: MGT 4430, 4440, 4450, and 4820
- Approved Electives (6 hrs.) - Select two courses from a list of approved electives (e.g., E. J. Ourso College of Business international courses, foreign languages, international relations, regional studies). Students will be encouraged to participate in an international study trip.
Strategic Leadership Concentration
The strategic leadership concentration provides students with a broad-based understanding of the role of management and leadership in today’s business environment. It focuses on topics like decision-making, the leadership role of the CEO, and dealing with management successes and failures.
- Required Courses (9 hrs.) - Select three from: MGT 3211, 4820, 4830, and 4840
- Approved Electives (6 hrs.) - A list of approved electives is available from the Rucks Department of Management.
