Frequently, our faculty are honored with teaching awards, publish in prestigious journals, and provide analysis used by key policymakers. As a service to the State of Louisiana, the LSU Department of Economics provides economic forecasts for the state and the nine metropolitan areas of the state for the current quarter and three quarters ahead.

LSU Energy Program 

The Energy Program prepares students for diverse and exciting careers in the energy industry. Housed in the Department of Economics, the Energy Program curriculum is designed to provide the broad skills and knowledge needed by the next generation of energy professionals. Students take classes that are specific to the energy sector, and have a wide range of extracurricular learning opportunities, including site visits, access to speakers in the industry, case competitions, energy conferences and expos, and industry-related internships.

The Louisiana Economy Forecasting Model, maintained by the Department of Economics, provides economic forecasts for Louisiana and the state’s nine metropolitan areas for the current quarter and three quarters ahead. The forecasts for the fourth quarter of 2024 through the third quarter of 2025 suggest continuing slow growth in state economic activity and slow employment growth in all but four metro areas.
