P.E.L.I.C.A.N Mentoring Program

The P.E.L.I.C.A.N mentor program will be launching its first group of peer mentors during the start of the 2023 Fall Semester. The mentors have experienced the Promise Scholar program firsthand and have fulfilled all program requirements. The goal of a peer mentor is to foster relationships between an incoming student and a student who has already completed the LSU Promise Scholars Program. A peer mentor is a key component in helping students enhance their college experience by introducing them to a community and keeping them accountable throughout their first year. Peer mentors are also meant to connect students with resources on campus and guide them by providing tools for success.

We created the name P.E.L.I.C.A.N not only to symbolize its significance in the state of Louisiana but also as an acronym to represent the purpose of the P.E.L.I.C.A.N mentorship program.
P.E.L.I.C.A.N stands for:

Peers: Relatable relationships
Enriching: Enhance their college experience through relationships and support
Learning: Tools for success
Innovating: Accepting change and creating new ways to approach learning
Connecting: With LSU communities
Acclimating: Helping the mentees transition from high school to college
Navigating: Finding and using campus resources

These peer mentorship positions are only available to our past LSU Promise Scholar participants who fulfilled all the program requirements during their freshman year.
