The University of North Dakota, College of Arts & Sciences, Department of American Indian Studies invites applications for a full-time, non-tenure track, Instructor with interests in American Indian Perspectives on the Environment, to include Environmental Science/Studies, Environmental Justice, and/or Environmental Health and Well-Being. The position is Instructor, American Indian Studies, Position #13797.  View more information about this vacancy.

We provide publishing support for U.S. Geological Survey authors in a large part of the country, from New Mexico to Florida, and are located in Lafayette, Louisiana at the Wetlands and Aquatic Research Center on Cajundome Blvd. A great draw of our reports are map figures that show everything from site locations to trends, all GIS based but pulled into Adobe Illustrator for finessing as publishable figures. Although authors do the GIS work, our group does the finessing.

We believe that a student of geography specializing in GIS would be a great person to train as an illustrator for our reports. Such a process would begin with the student coming on board part time while finishing up their degree, then possibly becoming a permanent, Federal employee with time though there would be no guarantees as we are part of the Federal government and subject to hiring restrictions. Why a GIS student? Well, the GIS expertise would be of great value because sometimes authors need help on that end and we do more than finessing.

Below are examples of map figures; we do publish quite an assortment of other types of figures including graphs and cross sections. We believe that someone with a spatial tendency and eye for detail–along with our training–could master composition of all these types of figures.
