Lambda Alpha, Alpha La Chapter

What is Lambda Alpha?

Established in 1968, Lambda Alpha is the National Anthropology Honor Society overseeing 255 university chapters across the United States. Lambda Alpha serves to acknowledge and reward academic excellence among students of anthropology. The Greek letters representing our society, Lambda and Alpha, are the first letters of the words Logos Anthropos (Λογος Ανθροποσ) meaning “the study of humankind.” Amongst members, academic excellence is celebrated through the awarding of student scholarships, research grants, and paper prizes. More information can be found at this website: https://www.laanthro.org

What is Alpha La?

Alpha La, established by Anthropology students in the Department of Geography and Anthropology in 1995, is the LSU chapter of Lambda Alpha, the National Anthropology Honor Society. Alpha La is devoted to promoting the field of anthropology and recognizing outstanding academic achievement by both graduate and undergraduate students here at LSU. The society encourages professional and social networking within the field by organizing the LSU Lambda Alpha Online Lecture Series, a World Anthropology Day celebration, a World Archaeology Day celebration, academic workshops, and other community events.
