The American Society for Nutrition and the ASN Foundation have honored Pennington Biomedical Research Center’s Dr. Leanne Redman with the 2025 E.V. McCollum Award – given to a clinical investigator who is perceived as a major creative force, actively generating new concepts in nutrition.
LSU custodian and Army veteran Brenda Finklstein is a finalist for Cintas’ National Custodian of the Year. Her dedication to LSU’s preschool and its children makes her a true community hero.
Maurice Carlos Ruffin was encouraged by educators in his life to pursue his dreams, support that ultimately led to writing success and his national bestseller, “The American Daughters.” Now he strives to do the same for his creative writing students at LSU.

LSU Librarian Nicollette Davis Drives Change as 2024 Mover & Shaker
In her short time at LSU, Librarian Nicollette Davis has made an indelible mark on LSU Libraries and the library world writ large. This year, she was named a 2024 Mover & Shaker by Library Journal for her dedication to equal opportunity initiatives. Library Journal is a premier American trade publication for librarians that was founded in 1876. It has awarded more than 20,000 recipients since the award's inception in 2002. Davis is one of 50 in her cohort and brings a wealth of experience and a passion for fostering a more inclusive environment within the library community.

Kenneth J. Schafer Honored as Boyd Professor, LSU's Highest Professorial Ranking
On Friday, Sept. 8, the LSU Board of Supervisors unanimously voted to designate Kenneth J. Schafer, Ball Family Distinguished Professor in Physics & Astronomy the rank of Boyd Professor--the highest and most prestigious academic rank at LSU.

LSU Manship School’s John Hamilton Honored for Media History Excellence by AEJMC
LSU Professor John Maxwell Hamilton has been awarded the Donald L. Shaw Senior Scholar Award by the Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication’s (AEJMC) History Division. This award honors a scholar who has a demonstrated record of excellence in media history that has spanned at least 15 years, including division membership.

Six LSU Faculty Receive National Science Foundation CAREER Awards
Six LSU researchers have been awarded the National Science Foundation’s most prestigious grant for early-career faculty. Each was chosen because of their potential to serve as academic role models in research and education, and ability to integrate their endeavors within the context of their organization’s mission.

LSU Research Professors Awarded $800K from U.S. Department of Energy
LSU quantum physics faculty are among 13 research groups in the U.S. recently selected for funding by the U.S. Department of Energy. These LSU researchers are at the forefront of interdisciplinary research in nuclear science, fundamental and applied research and quantum information science and technology.

Distinguished Research Masters and Dissertation Award Recipients Announced
LSU Office of Research & Economic Development, or ORED, honors the exceptional research and scholarship of two LSU faculty as Distinguished Research Masters each year. In addition, the LSU Alumni Association and the LSU Pinkie Gordon Lane Graduate School sponsor the Distinguished Dissertation Awards presented to two doctoral students whose research and writing demonstrate superior scholarship.
